BedBook - Commission at the Florence Nightingale Museum
Susan was commissioned to make this piece 'Bedbook' by the Florence Nightingale Museum, St Thomas’ Hospital, London. It is sited in the 3rd pavilion at the museum. This pavilion is about Florence’s later life when she was bedridden and wrote most of her publications such as Notes on Nursing. The bed is a symbol of Florence’s prolific writings, the mattress is constructed from almost 700 books. The pages are folded and shaped to look soft and contain a ghostly indent of a body shape.
