FLOOD - A Site Specific Intallation
FLOOD was commissioned by York Museums Trust for York St Mary's, a de-consecrated 13th century church which is now used as a contemporary art gallery. This site-specific installation was on show for 6 months during 2010. The piece was purposely sited in the alter area of the church, utilising the great ceiling height it reflected the churches unusually tall spire and the coloured wires referenced the colourful stained glass window behind. We purposely painted the walls behind red so that when the sun shone in a pink glow filled the space around the piece. 'Flood' was 8 metres high and used 4 tons of recycled power supplies from discarded computers, which were generously lent by Secure IT Recycling and after the exhibition the components were returned to them to re-enter the recycling chain.
